The Special Education Foundation, which serves over 20,000 students annually from the Special School District in St. Louis County, has hired Tim Eby as its new Executive Director. Eby brings a wealth of experience working in public media and the nonprofit sector, including serving as St. Louis Public Radio’s Director and General Manager for nearly 12 years.

During his tenure at the station, he increased the station’s annual budget from $4 to $8.5 million while also doubling its staffing and service to the St. Louis Region.

“We’re excited to welcome Tim to the Special Education Foundation and to see how he can help us chart our future programs,” said Debbie Bentele, President and Chairman of SEF’s Board of Directors.

In his role at St. Louis Public Radio, Eby led the station’s capital campaign to construct new studios and offices in the Grand Center Arts District, raising over $10 million. He also led the station’s Endowment Campaign raising lead gifts of $3 and $1.6 million from two well-known local philanthropists.

Tim Eby - Special Education Foundation“The mission of the Special Education Foundation to assist students with disabilities in St. Louis County in partnership with the Special School District is more important than ever,” Eby said. “I look forward to helping the organization grow in helping to empower students with disabilities by giving them the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.”

In his new role, Eby will oversee the Foundation’s upcoming neurodiverse careers initiative, which will provide career placement and meaningful employment opportunities for area students with leading local companies. The program is modeled after successful programs for neurodiverse individuals utilized by Fortune 500 companies and has been in development by the Foundation for nearly three years.

This initiative joins the Foundation’s established programs including Dana Brown Teacher Mini-Grants, where area teachers receive funding for innovative programs to engage students, the Fred Saigh Leadership Academy, which provides leadership opportunities for Special School District students, and funding of camperships, adaptive equipment (such as hearing aids and eyeglasses) and critical needs for students.

Eby is currently a member of the St. Louis Civic Pride Foundation board and has served previously as a Director with Grand Center, Inc., Focus St. Louis, where he was chair of the board for two years, the STL 250 Celebration, and Easter Seals Midwest.

Along with the appointment of Eby, Jeanine Aubuchon has been promoted to Managing Director, where she will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Special Education Foundation including its programs, marketing activities and data. Aubuchon has over a decade of experience with the Foundation and has overseen its operations during this transition.
